What you should know about raw denim?
What is raw denim?
- Raw denim is exactly what it sounds like.
- The denim has not been washed or treated after dyeing during production.
- If your usual jeans feel soft to the touch, that means they have gone through a wash during production.
- All the other versions of our O.T. denim have been washed and treated.
- Raw denim has a stiffer and more structured look compared to washed denim.
- Raw denim jeans are more susceptible to fading and shrinking.
- Over time, with regular wear, raw denim jeans will soften and stretch, conforming to your unique shape.
- Raw denim develops unique fading and wear patterns as you break them in.
- The denim I’ve used is a raw 13 oz, 100% cotton denim (not selvedge denim).
Breaking in raw denim:
- Raw denim takes time to break in - it depends on how often you wear it.
- It can take anywhere from a week of consistent wear to several months of occasional wear.
- A longer break-in period before the first wash is recommended to allow the fabric to stretch naturally and develop unique fade patterns.
- Alternatively, you can soak them in cold or lukewarm water for about 30 minutes and hang them to dry.
- This can help soften the fabric slightly and reduce initial shrinkage.
